Due to growing needs in the community, the Food Bank required a larger facility with increased space for food storage and staff. Now located in Burnaby, the new food bank is comprised of 30,000 square feet of warehouse space and 8,000 square feet of office space. Offices are located on mezzanine, and on the main level, staff have their own locker room with showers and a volunteer lounge provides a dedicated area for training and workshops. In the warehouse, the aptly dubbed “refrigeration alley” doubles their refrigeration capacity for perishables, and due to higher ceilings, more pallets can be stacked vertically. The heart of the facility is the Teaching Kitchen – a demonstration kitchen used for events and meal preparation workshops for clients to learn about creating healthy meals.
