Richmond East Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC)
Project Type: Healthcare
Client: Vancouver Coastal Health
Designer: Chernoff Thompson Architects
Location: Richmond
In response to an expanding population, a new Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) was constructed in East Richmond. CDC provided interior renovations for two ground-floor units inside a commercial office building, creating 9,763 sq.ft. of clinical space.
The premises included X-ray capability, 18 exam rooms, clean and soiled utility rooms, a communications room, care team stations, a staff lounge, 2 reception areas, and all associated medical spaces. Patient privacy was prioritized by installing special acoustic elements.
Despite working in an occupied building, construction in an active parkade, sharing walls with existing tenants and working with two separate building permits, CDC completed the project expeditiously paying extra attention to hoarding requirements, scheduling and frequent communication with stakeholders.
